PUGs got me up to speed!
one of the elements of gw i like is the whole to pug or not to pug thing. (Pick Up Groups)
I know we all have mixed feelings on them, but really - before heroes, you HAD to use them. So... I thought I'd look for some groups and catch up to you guys in cantha/factions/the 2nd campaign/the one we got cheap... bickety bam! I kicked some goals. Got both masters (2nd one in 13 minutes) and up to the same quest as you guys.
i also made enough gold to finally get better armour for vispahni (see post)

New Threads for Vispahni Sahqo
After checking out the gallery I made my decision and finally upgraded to level 70 armor - yes i was kicking around eye of the north with dodgy armor!
Anyways, I went for canthan armor, a photo of its original colour can be found here
i mucked around with all my dyes and managed to come up with something i liked.
any guesses as to what colours i dyed it (hint - its not just one colour)

Cool skill
Hey, I was doing some reseach on Guild Wiki and come across this skill...
It's called "None shall pass" and according to Guild Wiki, 'This skill's name is a reference to the Black Knight in the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, whose first words are "None shall pass!" to King Arthur.'

Last night...
Hey,
Ian, just so you know, last night we knocked over Arborstone and Boreas Seabed, both for Master's Level, and the primary quest that follows on from those missions. The primary quest we are up to now is "Battle in the Sewers".
So, anyway, if you can get up to there for next week, that'd be cool.

Cheating???
I have been spending some time with some of my old characters this past few weeks.
There are a few others out there...The Left and Cim Spleenstaker, 2 Elonian Warriors that will one day attain their destiny. The Ellipsis, a lvl 3 Necro, who is yet to make it out of Kamadan, but who is anxious to kick some butt!
So, who else have you all got on the sly? Hmm, seeing someone else maybe...when its a lonely Thursday night, you think no one will know, but now is the time to confess. Who have you got hiding away back there...come one guildies...'fess up!

Expertise - and why I invest so many points into it
I guess the main point of this post is to share some thoughts on my ranger builds, and what it is I'm working towards.
That... and to say Mick... try this...
Firstly, something I have noticed with my Ranger, is that I have very little energy management problems. Given that I have a bow that makes me lose 5 energy, cutting my base energy down to just 20, that seems mental. But, expertise, with its bonuses for energy helps like nobodies business. With Ex at 10, i save 40% on all my skills, cutting a 10 down to just 6, which is very managable. I even use some 15s from time to time - at the moment I use broad head arrow a bit.
Now sure... there are some pretty bizarre builds out there, that cleverly play up the positives of experise. Like Ritualist secondaries for cheap sprits, Necro secondaries for the classic "touch ranger/necro" and also some other variations including dervishes and warriors.
What I'm most interested in personally, is to keep the rangerness (how platonic) and just make use of some clever heals (obviously with a monk secondary) that will be significantly cheaper due to expertise. It might be worthwhile trying these out too guys (I know you all have lvl 20 rangers). The skills I'm working towards at this point in time are a straight heal (healing touch) and a condition remover (mending touch) - both of these reducing from 5, down to 3 with expertise at 10. The thing about a skill like healing breeze, is that you dont get any points off from expertise.
For a list of all touch skills look here. I even noticed you could make a nice Ranger/Warrior with some stances and a cheap headbutt!
one last note... upon checking out the article on expertise, i notice that the the reduction is rounded up not down... so a 5 energy skill only costs 3 when expertise is at 8. Its all on the article.

Hard Work
Last night after our Cathan adventures Caine and I headed back to NightFall for some skill capping. It was an adventure, to say the least.
The skill we were after is Anthem of Fury, a paragon skill. The only problem was, the only boss to have this skill in all of NF is in Nighfallen Jahai... also known as one of the trickier areas in NF.
Well, luckily I had Caine with me, otherwise I probably would have given up. There was a lot of planning and forethought and we rezoned about six times in the end. All up, it took us about an hour to kill...
Oath of Profanity
Like I said, it took us about an hour, and a lot of rezones, so the Oath of Profanity wasn't the only profanity on GW last night. Thanks for your help Caine...

The problem with text...
The problem with text is that it is often hard to determine where the emphasis in a sentence lies. Unless we type everything like this...or perhaps even this.
Its good to be aware of these little internet pitfalls, as it can quickly lead to people misunderstanding what has been expressed, and the attitude with which it was expressed.

homework
ok... here's something i;ve been thinking about since the other night...
and that is... homework
we all know what we are trying to do...
and well its easy enough to check out the mission order on wiki (its here for factions) and work out what builds will work best on the next couple of missions. why dont we post a few quick thoughts if you've checked it out, so we dont all need to wade thru the entire page.
maybe we can agree on a couple of things for all situations (except the occasion exception) and say copland takes a monk or whatever...
the other thing i've noticed lately is that you find a different set of info, sometimes conflicting (!@#$) at the official guild wars wiki which can be helpful for a more rounded picture.
lastly... i vote that Mick is our mapman. you did a great job the other night, and its one less thing for us all to worry about. if it helps, i can take 2 heros and you can take none - i have a pretty well rounded set of casters skills. but whatever...
so...
we still have to get the masters on this sucker
then we do 2 joining quests
a meeting with the emperor
and
the count's daughter
before moving on to the next mission
Arborstone
which we will need to complete in less than 30 minutes to get masters
sounds good?

A good nights Guild Wars-ing!
Well, I thought last night went pretty well. We did that first mission and got the bonus, which was great. I felt like we were really firing on all cylinders...and thats a great test of us as a Guild.
One of the hardest missions to get a bonus in (according to Wiki) and we nailed it with a little to spare. I just think that says a lot about us as a Guild, we cover a lot of bases with our characters and our heroes are pretty cool too.
Anyway, just wanted to say that if we can keep going like this, I'll be stoked. 1 or 2 missions a week, with the Primary Quests that get us through the game - thats pretty good if you ask me.
I'd like to continue this into Eye of the North too, if we can.

Just Incredible!
I have returned from exile. Had a bit of a play today, which was nice.
Exile...? you say?
well, i have to say, its nothing short of phenominal, the difference a couple of RAM chips has made to my GW experience. Everything is just flying along now. I have 2GB of Ram, and its just beautiful.
Oh and a request...
anyone got any mesmer runes? i need some insignias as well as probably a sup domination and a minor fast casting, minor inspiration and minor illusion (i think i need all 3?)

Guild of the Week
The official GW site has a section called "Guild of the Week". Its always interesting to me to read some of these anc check out what the more hard coreplayers have to say about the game. Towards the end of the article they have mini profiles on some of the main members of the Guild of theWeek. This article asks the players about their builds, and I thought you guys might be interested. There is even a vanquishing build for War/Ele characters, because that's one of the things this guild focuses on. Anyway, check it out, and maybe "borrow" some builds...

Runnaaaaaan....Runaaaaaaaaaaaan!
I Have running fever,
I now make a living in GW by running people from Piken Square to Yaks Bend (proph) for 500 gold each. It takes about 15 minutes in total, although i havent officially timed it, and when i take two passngers and dunkoro i make a plat each run with half at the courthouse. I have run my little warrior but off, it is awesome cause if i get into trouble or lag, i just fight level 4-10 minos. It is awesome.....quicker than farming with henchies and heroes although not any decent drops. Although today i got a Brown dye...yes i know...i have been getting heaps of drops lately.
Anyway...if you prefer to travel in safety take a TANK.
Peace

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!
Well, since everyone is so keen to start in on Factions, I guess I'll just have to finish Nightfall this weekend. So, if you are on and want to help me out, that'd be great. Currently I am 15/20. SO, this weekend it'll be heads down, bums up as I try and get it done before Tuesday.
There's just something inside me that won't let me do Factions until I have closed the book on NF. SO, I refer you to my earlier post - What does it eman to 'finish' the game? For me, it means doing all mission at master's level (PRotector Title) and having a good hard go at the Cartographer Title too (somewhere around the 95%).
So, that's where I am at. Hopefully I will be all good for Tuesday night and our adventure into Cantha.

New Threads!
Well... it took me a while, but here it is! So glad I didnt just buy gold, but put in the hard yards and managed to get the full 75k with Xyla (mesmers and gold farming arent exactly 2 words you'd use in the same sentence).
I went for a dye combo of 2 purple and 1 red on each piece. I'm happy anyways!

Lights.... Camera.... FACTIONS!
How's this for a plan
Zahran, Maisa, Stampy and Xyla - all do the factions missions together on Tuesday nights.
Before Caine gets on Copland and I can help Mick with Nightfall (or do whatever)...
So... we all do the missions with masters in Factions together with our main characters. If you wanna do other stuff in factions, thats cool, do it yourself, but missions in factions... we're all together
does that sound ok?

Whore's Flu....has wider ranging implications that some people think.
Tonight I want to knock over a couple of missions that I am stuck on (Jennur's Horde and the one after that...).
Also, in other news, I have just moved my computer to our loungeroom, and as such will be using wireless broadband. So, lets hope my connection (which might be a bit dodgy) can handle the fast paced world of GW and Skype.
See you all tonight!

Upland Girl
On Sunday Xyla went for a bit of a roll thru Dalada Uplands in the Charr Homelands
Here she is in this amazing place of funky towers and giant sunflowersI used this opportunity to go crazy and clear the map. which wasnt too hardAlso managed to get up to level 3 on my allegiance with ebon vanguard - which is cool - i can now buy ebon vanguard consumables. i would love to get the ebon armor at some stage - i need to be level 5 to do that though.
the underlying goal at the moment is always gold. Here's the latest tally (75k is the target)

There's a faction too much fiction....
Hi Guys,
Here is my thoughts....
We should gather as a guild and adventure into factions together and work together on finsihing factions together....did i say together?
I think this would be fruitfull to work togther in factiosn as we are all more or less at similar spots. This does not exclude doing nightfall as group thing or prophesies as a group thing if needed.
Let me know what your think

the ontological truth of a mode that is in extistential reality, harder
or hard mode...
Once you finish Nightfall - you can start raising those SS and LB points quite quickly and dramatically.
I have a nice spot I like for Sunspear points that I can show you guys (holdings of chokhim I think)
and also, know of a good LB farming spot, where in about 8 minutes you get around 500 LB and 500 SS. I just need to get a quest first - once you get these 2 quests you can kill 3 margonite bosses at the end (which actually i think yeilds more than the 500...?)
So... some time... when I have time, I'll show you guys these farming spots
cool?

They say its your birthday...
Na na na na na na!
That's right, The Stamp turns 1 today! And so, its present time. What did the gods of Guild Wars get The Stamp for his birthday?
a. five bucks in a card
b. a crappy Chiggen's Shortbow, that Ian can't seem to get rid of (but it might be worth something to someone so he's holding onto it!)
c. a mini hydra
And the answer is...
c. a mini hydra.
His name is Alfonse. Alfonse the Mini Hydra.

I'll show you mine, if...
how's everyone else going with their titles?
love to see a screen shot just of the top of the list if you want?
also... pics would be good sometime - i can do a new banner
lastly - I'm trying to actually get something finished... I have about 15k left to save for this armor, and i thought the best way to focus is to farm some sunspear points while im doing it. Who knows, I might get my wisdom title up a little too (I'm 80 of 100 now)
lastly... once i get the 15k - i need to do the final mission of nightfall to buy it (you buy it at the end). So Copland/Mick when you get there, let me know and i might come along - depends when i t is i guess. I'll come along anyways...

Abaddon is dead!
Hi all,
Just letting you know i have finally done all of the mission for Nightfall and amnow only 5 Masters misisons away from protector of Elona. The last mission is surprisingly easy and is done mainly by monks and casters! (4monks in your party)
Anyway i look forward to getting more done with your help.
If can assist anyone who needs some tanking to be done, let me know.

Last night I finished the Master's Reward for the Tihark Orchard Mission. Me and Lumo the Mime went at it four times, but in the end victory was mine. I now have 13/20 in my Protector of Elona title...getting, slowly but surely.

a little on the annoying side
in eye of the north you get books. these will record achievements for you, and once you've filled it in, you gain reputation points with whoever you hand it back to. the hero's handbook is one that is worth picking up (as well as the master dungeon guide)
the problem - it only gets filled in, if you have it in your inventory...
so? I should have a half filled in one... but... no... i didnt get it untilafter i'd done a bunch of the quests...
you can do more than one book anyways.
SO!!! As soon as you get into eye of the north, look for one of the guys that are aligned with either deldrimor, vangaurd, norn or asura (i think norn and deldrimor are first) and get the books!

a decision looms
actually in context that could be a pun, but its not meant to be...
I almost have 60k... I dont think I'm going to bother with masks because i dont wear them anyways, and they arent added to the monument, and its not like a helmet that makes the outfit...
Love to hear what you think, maybe put them in order... its alot of money, so i'd love to hear what you think
Here we go...
Ancient (Nightfall).
Primeval (Nightfall)
Dwarven (Eye of the North) - I need to be level 5 with Dwarves to buy this
Vangaurd (Eye of the North) - I need to be level 5 with Vangaurd to buy this one...
The others can all be seen here. I also dont mind Norn.

Nothing
Well, I gotta say, Tuesday night was a bust, a dud, a non-event. With a few computer troubles and a casual attitude by those of us who actually played, we pretty much got nothing done...
Not sure really why this was, just a combination of different reasons resulting in a fairly comprehensive waste of time.
So, next week...let's hit it hard, balls out as they say!
Later!

more important figures
this post has some more important figures.
1 - gold - check it out! I'm thinking about gw:en armor, but i dont know yet - i will post to get your opinions when im closer...
2 - my amount of dyes - seriously it seems like i get none for a month then 4 or 5 in one day!?! So, yes this is a challenge mick, i worked it out - my score is - 194. whats on the line - if I'm beaten I'll give you my Chiggen's Shortbow (which would bve very handy in our little intra-guild PvP matches)
3- Yes that's right, you can also see in my box that I have one (that's right one) battle commendation - you never know what I'm going to do with that bad boy!

whats really important on this blog
ok...
1st up!
sorry if i've ticked anyone off.
now
here's what i think.
I want this to be a place where we post stuff.
Am I posting useless crap, no one is interested in? If so, I'll cut it back.
My comments about the labels, were simply because it does create issues with functionality. If you're only going to post with the labels the way they've been - keep them that way - its more important to have a blog going, than have a clean blog going - if people are not going to use it.
i'm a little sick of comments not being posted though. It would be good if we acknowledge each others posts more often than not... yeah?
thats all... please us this - we've been going great guns - i'd hate for a dialectic between anal retentive attitudes and a "I'll take my bat all ball and go home"ness, to stop it.
thats all

not too smelly
a bit of humour in the game is always nice (mind you - i want to be that elementalist in factions - Kai Ying - the one with all the terrible puns)
anyways... check out the asura titles
anyways... check out the asura titles
Get em out....spread the love!
Hey guys,
I reckon it owuld be good if we post a picture of our titles of status...eg you know when you press H and look at that title section and it shows a list of everything you are going for? We should post that from our main character me= Zahran Ian=Xyla Cop=The Stamp Mick =Maisa
Just so we get a feel for where we all are.
Anyway just some thoughts.

the norn identity
sneak peak weekend went well
here's xyla flashing her norn titles - they really suit warriors, paragons, dervishes, assasins and rangers better (in that order). But, she'll take it for now...

i need your help
in my last post i alluded to heroes and the hall of monuments
basically - you can only add a hero to your monument if they have upgraded armor
so...
i would like to have a crack at this some tuesdays
the challenege missions give you the pieces - not sure about in GW:EN, but thats how it works in NF.
In particular - I want to get at least 2 more from Dajkah Inlet (hopefully 3) and then I want to hit the shadow nexus. You can also do upgrades in the domain of anguish and from the remains of sahlajah, but they are either not challenge related - or individual challenges.
so yeah - a couple more cracks at dajkah would be cool for now.

norn fighting tournament
maybe this should be posted by mick
i havent had a run at it yet, but the norn fighting tournament looks awesome
one of the cool things is that you unlock 2 of the competitors as heroes whn you beat them
Xandra (ritualist) and Kahmu (dervish).
I think I will compete to unlock these 2 in particular - i want to have 25 heroes in my monument of fellowship - but at the moment, I will only have 2. hmmm...

this post contains nornographic material
hows that for a pun?
so, the norn are like the rugby league players of guild wars - they're meat heads.
you have a skill and weapon both entitled club of a thousand bears but the real beauty lies in the shouts they offer.
my faves are
I am the Strongest
I am Unstoppable
You are all weaklings
Dodge this
and i think the best
You move like a dwarf
from looking at the skill aligned with the new titles it is pretty clear that some favour certain classes more than others - norn skills really work best for mellee, while the asura are more caster oriented. Mind you, Mick, if you're ever interested in putting together a ranger/necro touch build "you move like a dwarf" would really kick (also nice for assassins).
you obtain some of these thru quests - ymlad for example comes from worthy deeds (done dirt cheap)
all these skills change their attributes based on your title in norn allegiance (like sunspear skills).

come on people!
after reading some of the latest posts by someone in particular i have to crack it!
we now have 45 categories listed in our blog.
i was trying to reduce these to make it functional, and relevant
if i'm the only one that cares about functionality, then oh well, we'll keep the ridiculous list
do we really need...
festival of lyss - could this go under "missions"
moddock crevice - could this go under "missions"
monday or tuesday - could this go under "general"
pathfinder - could this go under "explorer status"
plans and team priorities could be the same thing?
random thoughts - could this go under "general"
skill capping - could this go under "skills" and/or "session reports"
superstitions - could this go under "general"
swopsies - could this go under "this week I want to..."
Title and titles - come on people, check before you post
yohlon haven - could this go under "towns and outposts"
winner - could this go under "competitions"
and
going to the toilet - could this go under "copland is a tool"
now... let me say, that i like to have things neat and funtional.
and... i dont mind cleaning it up - again.
and... i will (if you want) but dont be absolute far keds and with your next posts add 8 labels that are all stupid (you know who you are)
I've taken the time to post this, cause the messiness bugs me...
also.. last question - copland, would you like me to clean up your pics that you post that wont crop properly on your computer, or are you happy how they are
thankyou all...

Great skill name...
This skill is named after the MC Hammer song U Can't Touch This. Note the icon for the skill appears to be wearing Parachute Pants, which MC Hammer notably wore in the music video.

Very superstitious...
So, I have noticed that I tend to have a few little game superstitions when I play. For example, I only bank in 1K lots. If I do a run and score 1.123G I will only bank the 1k. The rest stays in my inventory, until it makes it up to the 1000...or 2000, or whatever. But I only bank in whole thousands.
Another one that I have is when capping a skill, I have to make sure all the monsters in the area are dead, not just the boss. I don't like to have pressure on me when capping (or when crapping, for that matter, but that's a story for another day and a different blog!).
So, these are just 2 of the little superstitions that I have about the game.
What, don't look at me like that! I'm sure YOU have a few as well...

That's committment
Last night Caine and I made our assult on the Moddock Crevice (Master's Reward). It took us a few goes (maybe 7 or more...) but in the end we got there and it was a sweet, sweet victory.
It reminded me of what GW is all about; putting in the hard yards, tweaking your strategy until you get it just right and working with a mate to get something done that you couldn't do yourself.
Just in case I'm sounding overly sentimental, let me finish with this...
Caine's a bastard, because he got a gold drop and a white dye...and I got nothing!

What's the plan, Stan?
I know not everyone always responds to the things we blog about, but I would really apprecite an answer on this one, thanks.
So, I have been debating what the future of GW looks like for me. I've played it out in my head a few times and even discussed it with each of you (though it was while playing, so I didn't really get anywhere!).
After much prayer and fasting, I have determined the following...
After I finish Nightfall I am going to take The Stamp over to Factions and finish that too, before I move on to GW:EN. There...I've said it!
I am probably around 2/3 of the way through NF, and then I will make my assult on Factions. I figure it'll take me about 3 months if you guys are with me, 4 if I do it by myself, until I can play GW:EN with a clear conscience and an open heart. To do this right, I have to finish the 3 chapters of the game that I already have.
What does 'finishing' the game require? Basically a protector title and as close as I can get to grand master cartographer without going mental (a la Mick Nelson) is what I will be happy with. Its no small task, but then again, I'm no small man!

dont take it too seriously
here's a sample for our new blog banner
tell me...
what sort of look do we want to go for?
the only thing i really like about this one is NWA written big, with noobs with attitude underneath it.
also, the fade in and out to black works well from a design perspective.

The Best Mission Ever
Well, I have just had a go at the Festival of Lyss mission . Its great fun, and it was cool. Unfortunately I died just before killing the last Skree (not that its hard, I was just being slack I guess). Its cool though, I would have had to do it again anyway, as I failed the bonus thanks to this punk...
Great mission! One of those great GW moments that reminds me why I love this game so much.

from what i can gather
mick and caine - are you ambivilent? just dont care...
and copland, you do care...
and dave? do you read this?
please comment - you know how many comments my posts get - not many
if my info is true, then maybe copland and i (together) should just bring 1 or 2 names to the rest of you, and then go from there...
thoughts?
some suggestions?
giuld of typos
the mispronounciators
an autonomous collective
guild wars ate my baby (maybe not)

Fahranur
(the first city)
So, I had some time to kill last night, couldnt sleep and thought hey, I might flesh my map out, have a crack at the vanquish and get some gold and sunspear points while i'm there...
so i did!
If you start at Blacktide Den you get to take a party of 8. Couldnt have done it from Jokanur Diggings - theres one bit where yoyur up against 12 or so ridgeback scales... crazy!
I've got a map screenshot, but I'm at work - i will delete this line if i get round to posting the map here...
